That’s an incredible waste! Another 21st century option is virtual gift-wrapping. It may not save on all the packaging, but it helps. If you send a purely virtual gift however, it completely eliminates both wrapping paper waster and packaging. The only site on the web I’ve seen where this is available is Planetwrapper.com

How can this possibly add up? 4.39lbs x 365.25 days = 1603.45 lbs per year. How does less than 1 ton (2000 lbs) get to 56 tons of trash created by the ‘average person’?

This makes no sense to me…

Excellent point Olden! Why would the Clean Air Council publish such numbers if they were not verified and true? Can anyone find out for us???????

Oils/grease from restaurants; well done you guys!

There are people doing the same here. Mass produced second generation biofuels are a little way off yet.

Politicians in the EU have finally woken up to the damage that first generation biofuels can create, with announcements this weak that corn, soy and palm oil biofuels will be outlawed. See;

Thanks for your comment, Matt. Many of our group use restaurant grease in the spring and summer in their diesel cars. Winter in Chicago, of course is impossible to use because of the below freezing temperatures. Matt, any places in your area that sell second generation biofuels?

Does your group understand the environmental impacts of ‘first generation’ biofuels? Second generation is the way to go or utilize waste oils from restaurants;
